Jewish Care Victoria
Jewish Care Victoria’s approach to respite is visionary, with a commitment towards creating a more responsive, sensitive, accessible and inclusive environment for people with disability. Jewish Care’s Coppel & Piekarski Family Disability Respite Centre in Caulfield opened in March 2016 and offers respite and community outreach programs for children, adults, disability patients and their families within three secure wings. It is a unique community-oriented model of care that is the first of its kind in Australia. In this session, William will provide insight on the
- Planning and development process for the collocated facility that must cater for a mix of generations demographics, cultural/religious identity and disabilities and how they funded and operationalised it;
- Significance of this build as a response to community desires for collocating ad ults & children;
- Benefits of co-design with architects and the boarder community (end users and other service providers) to assess their architectural response; and
- Reflecting on the impact their respite centre has had on clients & families
