3:10 PM CASE STUDY: Transforming Healthcare for Shepparton Residents by Delivering World-Class Healthcare Facilities

Due for completion by late 2020, the world-class $168.5 Million redevelopment of the Goulburn Valley Shepparton hospital will enable new treatment models, enhance future capacity for the rapidly growing Shepparton community and deliver next-generation health services for residents. In this session, Donna and Sandy will reflect on their experiences from a clinical and capital works perspective:

  • How contemporary design will meet current and future service demands of patients and families
  • Maintaining a fully operational hospital while redeveloping entire services – operational and commissioning challenges and solutions employed
  • Lessons learnt around prioritising what you can build and what services you can deliver within a defined budget

12:00 PM Having a Vigorous Change Management Approach in Place to Ensure a Smooth Transition From the Old to New Clinical Environment

Relocating into a new clinical environment, especially where the transition is on a large-scale, can be a daunting and complicated task. Change management is absolutely fundamental and acts as the ‘glue’ that keeps the business together. Change management activities and mechanisms can help maintain cultural alignment, synergies, operational efficiencies and continuation of workflow which is especially important where the transfer occurs in a live hospital environment.

A change management approach should be identified and established in the initial stages of planning and continue well into the transition. Led by Donna Sherringham, Executive Director of Clinical Operations and Sandy Chamberlin, Executive Director of Infrastructure, this interactive workshop offers you the opportunity to discuss among your peers your role as a leader of change and the change management activities and mechanisms you could apply to your own scenario.

This interactive workshop offers you the opportunity to discuss among your peers:

  • Your role as a leader of change
  • The change management activities and mechanisms you could apply to your own scenario
  • How to manage and execute extensive levels of clinical engagement, increase community engagement and consultation and clinical assessment of the whole health service’s readiness to transition
  • How to appoint change champions to support their colleagues through the process
  • Building a dedicated training program to prepare staff for the change, including change management tool kits and help portals to support staff during the immediate postoccupancy period
  • How to communicate change and engage the community
