10:30 AM KEYNOTE PRESENTATION: Improving and Increasing Functionality Through Big Data and Service Model Redesign – The DASH Model of Care Applied to Nursing Clinical Nursing Handover Decision Support

Dashboards allow staff to see every patient in the hospital and their health details, giving nurses all the information they need to make well informed clinical decisions, thus improving the reliability of nursing care. Metro South Health has developed NUM MUM project – a first in Australia – a patient centred risk management tool that demonstrates clinical patient risk to the nurses caring for those patients in real time. In this session, Darren will discuss:

  • The impact of NUM MUM on nursing workflow – how it enables targeted rounding to the most sick and complex patients
  • Opportunities for service redesign as nurses gain access to patient data in real time
  • Nurse sensitive information – identifying what is nurse sensitive in line with the NUM KPI to ensure relevance of information flowing into the dashboard
  • How embedding real-time analytics into nursing workflows helped manage clinicians’ expectations and allowed for proactive management of system shortfalls
